Why Willis?

Hi there— Anzar here; I’m the founder and CEO of Brooklyn Health. One question we get a lot is Why Willis?
Well, before I trained as a neuroscientist, I was a student of the history, philosophy, and sociology of science. I was fascinated by the lives of scientists that shaped our world. One of these was a 17th century Oxford physician named Thomas Willis. Willis and his colleagues were among the first to popularize the idea of the brain as the seat of human consciousness. In doing so, they paved the way for a new field of brain science. Indeed, it was Willis who coined the term neurologie. Thomas Willis is an often overlooked figure in the history of science; we figured we’d coin our work after him.
